Corps of Cadets Rewarded for Outstanding Performance

Corps of Cadets,

Congratulations on your outstanding support and performance throughout all of the homecoming events last week and over the weekend.

I am authorizing a Free Rev on Wed morning and cancelling Drill. Since mid-terms are this week, I hope that cancelling drill and a free rev will assist you in doing your very best on your tests.

I personally received many compliments from visiting alumni about Silver Taps, the Parade, Flame Guard, Band, Drill Team, Spirit Squad, Vocal Ensemble, the Colt and Bronco Athletes, and the general appearance, military bearing and courtesy of the Corps. Our cadets assisting with the Open House also did an excellent job.

Good Luck on your mid-terms and have a great week.

Richard (Rick) V. Geraci ' 75 JCG
Brigadier General, US Army (Ret)
Commandant of Cadets /Dean of Students

Cadet Soloists Receive Awards

Four cadet vocal soloists performed well at the recent Southeastern New Mexico Music Educators Assn. District Solo & Ensemble Festival hosted by Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. High school students from all over southeastern New Mexico were judged by a panel of distinguished collegiate judges.

First year cadet Nicholas Renner, a HS Senior from Santa Fe, NM, received an “Excellent – 2+ Division” rating. Cadet Shayna Nichols, a HS Junior from Roswell, NM, and first year cadet William Schaller, a HS Freshman from Artesia, NM, earned “Superior – 1st Division” ratings. Cadet PFC Andrew Volgenin- Kulikoff, a HS Senior from Northbend, WA, topped-out with a “Superior – 1+ Division” rating.

Superior Division winners were awarded blue ribbon medallions, and those receiving Excellent Division ratings were awarded signed certificates of recognition. The next opportunity for cadet musical recognition will be during the upcoming New Mexico Music Educators Association All-State Auditions which will be held on 20 OCT at ENMU/Portales.

Don't Wait! Make Holiday Travel plans TODAY!

CADETS MAY NOT STAY ON CAMPUS DURING THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS, OR SPRING BREAKS!

Please note NMMI does not manage holiday transportation, you must contact New Mexico Texas Coaches, LLC for details and pricing.

The bus companies are not responsible for delayed or cancelled flights and are not obligated to hold bus departures from the airport. We always recommend that cadets arrive at the airport well before bus departure times for return to Roswell.

Cadets and parents should expect bus departures to Albuquerque Airport at:

  * 0600 (6 am) on Saturday, 22 November with return to NMMI from Albuquerque Airport on Sunday, 30 November at 1800 (6 pm) for Thanksgiving,
  * 0600 (6 am) on Friday, 19 December with return to NMMI from Albuquerque Airport on Sunday, 11 January at 1800 (6 pm), and
  * 0600 (6 am) on Saturday, 28 March with return to NMMI from Albuquerque Airport on Monday, 6 April at 1800 (6 pm) for Spring Break.

NMMI provides a shuttle to Roswell airport with departures from campus on the same days and times for cadets departing from campus to Albuquerque (see previous paragraph for times). NMMI does not provide a shuttle for returning cadets after breaks from Roswell airport due to limited resources and multiple arrivals.

Sunshine Cab Company, (575) 910-3400, provides local transportation. The city of Roswell also operates local city buses and cadets in uniform may ride the city buses for free if they are in uniform.

Galaxy Transportation, LLC – a local transportation company, will continue to provide limited transportation options to cadets during holiday breaks. Contact Michael Peacock, Operations Manager, at (575) 637-8550 or visithttp://www.galaxyshuttles.com/nmmi.html for more information (see enclosed flier for more information).

NMMI DOES NOT MANAGE BUS SERVICES

Infirmary Notes

Medical Care Packages. Effective immediately, the Infirmary is no longer able to order over-the-counter (OTC) medication for your cadet from the pharmacy. Please send care packages to your cadets with OTC’s to help with cold and flu symptoms, allergy medications, upset stomach and diarrhea, headaches, and muscle pain and stiffness. Additionally you may consider sending Kleenex, personal hand sanitizers, and other small items to make cold and flu season easier on them.

Flu Shots. Flu shots are available to cadets in the infirmary at any time and are free for cadets. Please encourage your cadet to come in and receive their flu shots.

Eyewear. Walmart Vision Source will be on campus at the infirmary every fourth Thursday of the month to adjust cadets eyeglasses at no charge.
